Google Updates AMP Validation Tool to Support Web Story Integration

Google has updated its AMP testing tool to now test for valid Web Story formats.

Web Story Tester Tool

Google’s Web Story validator helps publishers check if their web stories are valid, aiding in troubleshooting issues. This Web Story validator tool is available in the same location as the AMP Validation tool.

The validation input accepts both AMP and Web Story URLs, eliminating the need for separate tools. This integration is due to the Web Story feature being a subset of AMP, originally known as AMP Stories.

Web Story

A Web Story is a type of Accelerated Mobile Page (AMP) designed for quick content consumption.

Google refers to this as snackable content.

Web Stories often have limited text, short videos, and images, making them suitable for users seeking brief distractions, such as during a subway ride or in a waiting room. While designed for quick consumption, readers can click through to more detailed content if interested.

Not a Replacement for Traditional Content

Web Stories serve as an additional method to engage users and generate advertising revenue, rather than replacing traditional articles. They offer an alternative way to monetize content.

Web Story WordPress Plugin

A WordPress plugin for creating web stories is available, although it is currently in Beta and may have some shortcomings.
